Cleaning the LX100 sensor
May viii, 2018
I would similar to clean the sensor of my LX100 (it has some dust spots) using the procedure I found on iFixit (https://nl.ifixit.com/Guide/Disassembling+Panasonic+LUMIX+DMC-LX100/55603)
I already tried the vacuum trick (https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3998954) and although it did remove the largest grit particle, it did not make clean all.
I'g a scrap wary about the 3 springs beneath the screws property the sensor unit to the body. The service manual says:
9.7. Removal of the MOS Unit
When remove the MOS Unit of measurement one time (the spiral (E) is loosened
fifty-fifty a picayune), the optical tilt adjustment is required.
When loosen the screw (E), necessary the optical tilt aligning
at the stop of assembling. (Refer to item "10.iii.2.")
I have no way to perform this tilt adjustment considering special hardware and software is required.
In the iFixit guide, I read some comments that the camera performs well fifty-fifty without this adjustment.
Does anyone over here accept whatsoever feel with cleaning the sensor of the LX100 and whether or not it'southward really necessary to perform this optical tilt adjustment?

This is a photographic camera repair shop level of work.
Do not try this at home unless you are happy to risk trashing your camera.
Transport it off for cleaning unless the price is exorbitant.

Re: Cleaning the LX100 sensor
Well, what'due south exorbitant...
A local shop charges 135 euro'due south and I'chiliad pretty sure they don't have the dedicated Panasonic tools and software either. Panasonic doesn't even desire to give me a quote, other than that I have to send it in and accept them and so giving a quote. If I then don't want to take them clean it, they will charge 75 euro's for looking at it.
If it would exist a one-fourth dimension job, I could live with that, merely I'm pretty certain dust will reappear inside a year. Wonderful camera, but the dust trouble really does exist.

How-do-you-do StefanD
I have cleaned the sensor on 4 LX100'south. I likewise used fixit procedures, however I used the ane for removal of the motherboard. After that it's very like shooting fish in a barrel to remove the backplate and iii screws holding the sensor. But be conscientious as y'all remove those iii sensor screws as there are very modest springs backside the sensor plate as you remove it. Too remember the amount of torque needed to remove the screws so that you apply the same amount when reassembling. (I had no problems with paradigm alignment or focus using this method). Lift the sensor plate out and advisedly flip information technology over to clean the sensor. The wires will remain attached to the sensor plate as you remove information technology and so it can feel somewhat awkward. Clean the sensor and likewise blow out the lens/shutter that's still in the camera body as there can be dust in there. I used a wet cleaning method for best results. Apparently you lot must have a clean work area and minimize any dust by thoroughly cleaning before starting the teardown. When putting the sensor back on, make certain you lot put the little springs dorsum showtime and so gently lay the sensor back on top and screw information technology down using aforementioned torque as noted earlier.
Best to yous,
Cheers,
Don

Hi Don,
Thanks for the information and tips!
It surprises me that remembering the torque works in this case: I had expected that the springs would brand that pointless considering the torque required to plow the screw would exist about the same for at least some turns of the screw. (the range of aligning) Do y'all take to tighten the screws and then the springs are fully compressed?
What I was planning to exercise is to put a small marker on each screw, take a photo of information technology then tighten it fully counting the turns required to do so. When reinstalling, I can do the same in reverse and make certain the screws are in the aforementioned position every bit they were before.
What do yous think of that idea?
Kind regards, Stefan.

Sorry for the late respond.
I think your idea almost marking the screws is probably a amend plan than I suggested.

I finally found the backbone to clean the sensor and am glad to permit you know that information technology worked out fine. The three screws with springs had different positions: Once attached, I had to turn them back 0.8, ane.iii and 1.0 turns. This can be a coincidence ofcourse, but I'm glad I noted the positions.
The little dust specks were clearly visible on the sensor and are now gone

I replaced the complete lens assembly in my TZ70 - at present it works perfectly EXCEPT that information technology's sometimes slow to focus and its focus at maximum zoom is sometimes poor. I acquired a PDF service transmission for information technology and that's when I institute out about the Optical Tilt Aligning. Of course that's why the sensor uses Torx T3 screws (all other screws are crosshead) and springs! Also why the copper-coloured backplate has holes in it over those three screws. I've been quoted $111 (NZ) past a service agent for the adjustment, I'g nonetheless mulling that over. According to the manual the software is chosen 'DSC_Tilt' and is specially uploaded on 'the web-site' merely I take no clue where that is...

BTW I cleaned my LF1 without really knowing what I was getting myself in to and although it focuses OK, it always thinks its in Macro fashion, and then I retrieve I may accept to fiddle with the tilt conform screw and encounter what happens
